Man arrested for marrying 12-year-old
I need further explanation about this news from China.
According to the article, a man got married with a 12 year-old girl, but he did not pay the dowry. So, he was arrested and is charged with rape against a girl under 14 years old.
My question is;
1) Is it OK in China to get married even at 12 years old?
2) If (1) is yes, is it OK to make love with such a wife?
If my understanding is right, the girl’s parents who called police seem to have accepted their marriage and they would have not called police, if they had got dowry…
Then, my guess is that it is originally prohibited in China to get married with a girl less than 14 years old. So, the parents also let her daughter get married in order to get money.
According to our (Japanese) understanding, it is impossible to make an own daughter get married just for 1,750 dollars.
However, I, a single gentleman, am thinking of immigrating in China just to get married…

A man who married a 12-year-old girl was recently arrested by police for suspected rape, China News Service reported.
The 29-year-old surnamed Cao, a farmer in Jiangxian County of Shanxi Province, bought the teenage wife for 14,000 yuan (US$1,750) last year.
The girl's parents called police recently saying they did not received the promised dowry money and wanted their daughter back. Police began to investigate the case.
Cao is in police custody now and is charged with rape because he had sex with girl under 14 years old.
