How I lasted 3 days in broken lift
It is hard to believe that this kind of accident was happened in the capital of Germany and also is a miracle that an old man survived in an elevator for 3 days…
The biggest news in Japan now is about an elevator made by Schindler burned up and killed a high school boy. It’s been turned out that the elevators made by the company have burned up at many places in this country. For example, they move without closing the door or without stopping at the designated floor and hit the top or the bottom of the building. Since Japan has many electric manufacturers who make elevators, Schindler is not as famous as it is in other countries. So, the distrust by Japanese against the company is very high now…
While it is good to know that the old man was rescued after 80 hours in a broken lift which went up and down a bit, this kind of action by the elevator is just as we repeatedly hear from news in Japan everyday, as the action by broken elevators by Schindler. (They say it is not a mistake by the manufacturer, but by the maintenance company…)
Out from my curiosity, I would like to know the manufacturer of this elevator…

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- A German pensioner and former elevator repair man had to survive on just a packet of biscuits while he was stuck in a broken hospital lift for three days.
Karlheinz Schmidt, 68, who had turned up for a routine appointment at a Berlin hospital, slipped out of his wheelchair during the 80-hour ordeal in which he repeatedly pushed the lift's alarm button without anyone hearing his call for help.
"I was lying on the floor and the elevator went up and down for a bit. I pushed the alarm button several times, but nothing happened," the daily Bild quoted Schmidt as saying.
"I thought to myself ... 'Karlheinz, that's it. You're on your own now.'"
Schmidt, who appeared on German television looking pale and weak, was finally discovered on Monday after a nurse reported the broken lift.
Schmidt's son had launched a hunt for his father but rescue workers after scouring the hospital grounds had concentrated efforts on dredging a nearby canal.
